Dear Ingram’s Karate Families,
One thing we want every parent and student to understand is this: ups and downs in karate are completely normal. In fact, they are not just expected- they are part of the journey.
We often see these moments arise around Orange belt and Green belt, when techniques become more challenging, expectations increase, and progress can feel slower. Students may say they’re “bored” or that it’s “too hard.” But what they are really experiencing is something much deeper, they are being stretched.
And that’s where the real growth happens.
Karate is not just about punches, kicks, or belts. It’s about developing perseverance, resilience, and confidence. When a student pushes through a difficult phase instead of walking away, they learn one of the most important life lessons we can offer:
👉 Success doesn’t come from quitting when things get hard, it comes from continuing despite it.
If we allow children to give up during these challenging moments, we unintentionally teach them that it’s okay to walk away when things aren’t easy. But when they stay the course, something powerful happens…
They break through.
And when they do, they don’t just earn a new belt, they gain confidence that carries into school, friendships, and every challenge life brings. They can look back and say, “That was hard, but I did it anyway.” That mindset is what sets them up for success in everything they pursue.
As parents and instructors, our role is to guide them through these ups and downs, not around them.
We are here to support your child every step of the way, and we promise you this: on the other side of the struggle is growth, pride, and accomplishment.
Thank you for trusting us to be part of your child’s journey.
With respect and gratitude,
Sensei Sheri
